THERE has been a series of acts of vandalism in Llandeilo over the weekend just before the town is due to host its annual summer events. Llandeilo train shelter and the Kings Bridge, known locally as the swing bridge, have both been targeted and painted with white emulsion, which will be costly for the council to remove. The incidents occurred in between the evening of Saturday, July 25 and early hours of Sunday, July 26. It has been reported that the paint used for the vandalism was stolen from a skip on Blende Road, where a house is currently undertaking renovation work British Transport Police and Arriva Trains Wales have both been informed and the clear up will be done this week. The windows and flooring of the Llandeilo train shelter have been covered in emulsion which has caused concern for local residents. Train enthusiast Hywel Jones, who took the image of the train shelter, went to the station on Sunday afternoon and spotted the incident. He then reported it to BTP and Dyfed Powys Police. Llandeilo & Dyffryn Cennen County Councillor Edward Thomas said: “This is very disappointing and a stupid action. The bridge is an important link between the two communities and was subject to a major improvement in 2012/2013. “The bridge celebrated its centaury in 2011. Not only has the floor been painted in the emulsion but there is also some damage to the structure. “The police and local authority have been informed. The clean-up of the bridge many be more difficult due to rules and prohibiting chemicals such as paint getting into the river. “The people or parents will know who did this as there will be footprints and I suspect paint on clothes and shoes.” The authorities have been urged to begin the clean up as soon as possible as Llandeilo Jazz Festival is set to take place this weekend from July 1 until July 3 and Llandeilo Musical Festival runs from July 9 until July 17. If you know any information regarding the incidents please contact the British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40.
